Factors in the Timeline for Invisalign
- Posted on: Feb 15 2018
Invisalign has become one of the most popular methods of straightening teeth in history. This system has met the high demand for discretion among today’s patients. We live on the day of Selfies and self-promotion, which means that we need to be camera-ready at a moment’s notice. Cleary, misaligned teeth don’t fit in with this way of living. Braces don’t, either. But Invisalign can.
The Benefits: Do We Even Need To?
Invisalign offers a range of benefits that are pretty well known by this point. Most patients who visit our Boca Raton office have already done their homework. They know that Invisalign is not braces; it is an aligner system. They know that aligners are barely noticeable, cosmetically speaking. Some patients also come into the office thinking that Invisalign is also a type of accelerated treatment protocol. This may not be accurate and needs to be discussed, so there are no surprises.
What it Takes to Straighten Teeth
Teeth are held stable by the periodontal ligament beneath the gums and also by the jawbone. If you have ever enjoyed a steak or chewy candy, you know how secure your teeth are in their position in the mouth. Well, this security needs to be disrupted just a bit for us to get teeth where we want them – and that takes time.
The initial effect of wearing Invisalign (or braces, for that matter) is that the periodontal ligament loosens slightly around teeth roots. It is only after this loosening that we can start seeing the smile transformation we seek. One of the benefits of Invisalign is that patients get so observe this transformation as it occurs, bit by bit.
The Invisalign Process
The first step in getting your dream smile is to consult with an experienced Invisalign provider. We are happy to see you in our Boca Raton office. After confirming that you are a good candidate for Invisalign, we send models of your upper and lower arches to the Invisalign lab, where your series of aligners are made. When your aligners are ready, you will travel through your treatment plan in two-week increments. Every six weeks, we will follow up with you to check your progress. Additionally, we are always available to answer questions if they arise.
